The New York Knicks have shown a strong preference for former Villanova Wildcats, currently featuring four players from the Big East school, including their standout, Jalen Brunson. Their roster also includes Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Hart, and their newest Villanova addition, Mikal Bridges, who was acquired from the Brooklyn Nets last July.
However, the Knicks have now signed another former college standout who isn’t from Villanova. According to Mike Scotto of HoopsHype, the Knicks have secured a two-way contract with former Kansas Jayhawks guard Kevin McCullar Jr.
McCullar, who was an All-Big 12 First Team selection this past season at Kansas, also earned spots on the Big 12 All-Defensive Team and the All-Big 12 Third Team in 2023. During his time with the Jayhawks, he averaged 14.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 45 percent from the field. Known for his versatility on both ends of the court, McCullar is seen as a promising NBA prospect.
He initially played three seasons with the Texas Tech Red Raiders before being selected by the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft. His rights were traded to the Knicks on draft night.
