Mark Stoops shares latest updates on injured Wildcats
College football is just around the corner.
With the Kentucky Wildcats set to face Southern Miss in under a month, the team is gearing up for a promising season. Fall camp began on Wednesday to help them achieve their high expectations.
On Friday, media had the opportunity to hear from head coach Mark Stoops about the early stages of camp. Stoops highlighted several players who will be out for significant periods due to injuries.
Defensive linemen Josaih Hayes, Tavion Gadson, Darrion Henry-Young, and defensive back Jiquavious “Quavo” Marshall will all be sidelined. Hayes, who tore his Achilles in the spring, will miss the entire season.
Stoops noted, “Josaih Hayes will be out for an extended period of time. Tavion Gadson, who stepped in for Josaih last year, will also be out for an extended period. These players will be out for most or all of the season. Quavo Marshall at corner and Darrion Henry-Young on the defensive line will also be missing significant time. Aside from these issues, we’re in relatively good shape.”
The injuries are concentrated on the defensive side, especially the defensive line, which was previously a strong area for the team. Despite this, Kentucky’s defensive line still boasts top talent, including potential top-10 NFL Draft pick Deone Walker and experienced players Octavius Oxendine and Keeshawn Silver.
Currently, there is no set return date for the injured players, but there is hope that some may return before the end of the 2024-25 season.
