The Phoenix Suns made a surprising move by signing Tyus Jones to a one-year, $3.3 million contract on Saturday, adding much-needed depth to their backcourt. This decision was unexpected and addresses their previous lack of a traditional point guard, as they enter the 2024-25 season with two capable facilitators.
Prior to Jones’ signing, the Suns had also brought Monte Morris on board with a one-year deal. With these additions, both the starting lineup and second unit should have no trouble managing their offense. The experienced guards will complement the Suns’ Big 3, allowing them to focus on scoring.
Head coach Mike Budenholzer, well-versed in the role of a point guard, will benefit from these new signings. Fans are hopeful for a successful season following the team’s summer moves.
However, the influx of new players could lead to roster adjustments, potentially resulting in trades to create space. Jones, coming off a career year with the Washington Wizards—where he averaged 12 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists while shooting 41% from three—may see significant playing time.
Here are three players who might be traded to accommodate Jones’ addition:
**Bol Bol**
Bol Bol’s playing time was limited last season, appearing in only 43 games with an average of 10.9 minutes. He recorded 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Despite re-signing with the Suns, Bol has struggled to make an impact and may be considered expendable as the team focuses on immediate contention.

**Damion Lee**
After missing the 2023-24 season due to a meniscus injury, Damion Lee faces a challenging return. He previously averaged 8.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. With the Suns’ star trio and other emerging role players, Lee might struggle to fit in. His return could be difficult to manage, and while his championship experience is valuable, his on-court contribution might not meet expectations.
**Nassir Little**
Trading Nassir Little could prove challenging due to his contract. After signing a four-year, $28 million extension with the Portland Trail Blazers, Little was traded to the Suns, who still owe him $21.7 million over the next three seasons. Although he showed promise with the Blazers, his performance with the Suns has not met the expectations of his contract. Given Jones’ addition, trading Little could be a strategic move to free up roster space.
