The St. Louis Cardinals are set to acquire right-hander Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham from the Chicago White Sox in a three-team trade that will also see Tommy Edman moving to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers will also receive right-hander Michael Kopech from the White Sox and minor league right-hander Oliver Gonzalez from the Cardinals. The White Sox, in return, will get infielder/outfielder Miguel Vargas, along with prospects Jeral Perez and Alexander Albertus, and either a player to be named later or cash considerations from the Dodgers.
Fedde, 31, has posted a 7-4 record with a 3.11 ERA this season with the White Sox, his first year with the team. He signed a two-year, $15 million contract with Chicago after spending a season in Korea. His career record stands at 28-37 with a 4.92 ERA over 123 games (109 starts) with the Washington Nationals and White Sox. Pham, 36, who started his MLB career with St. Louis, is hitting .266 with five home runs and 33 RBIs in 70 games this year, with a career average of .259.
Edman, 29, has not played this season due to right wrist surgery last October. Over his five seasons with the Cardinals, he has a .265 batting average with 53 home runs and 222 RBIs, and he won a Gold Glove Award at second base in 2021. Kopech, 28, is 2-8 with a 4.74 ERA and nine saves in 43 relief appearances this season, and has a 17-33 record with a 4.38 ERA in 146 career games (60 starts) with the White Sox. Vargas, 24, is hitting .239 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 30 games this season. Gonzalez, 17, was recently signed by the Cardinals from Panama and has a 2-0 record with a 4.22 ERA in 21 1/3 innings in the Dominican Summer League. Perez, 19, who is the Dodgers’ No. 17 prospect, has a .264 average with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs in 75 games at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. Albertus, 19, ranked as the Dodgers’ No. 23 prospect, has hit .298 with three home runs and 42 RBIs in 51 games between Rancho Cucamonga and the Arizona Complex League.
