The 24-year-old, who signed a four-year contract with Arsenal last summer, only played 257 minutes in the Premier League during the 2023/24 season, with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard being preferred by manager Mikel Arteta.
Reiss Nelson has been rumored to be leaving Arsenal since the summer transfer window opened, with West Ham United showing interest.
According to Fabrizio Romano, newly-promoted Leicester City has begun talks with Arsenal about a potential loan deal for Nelson, which could include an obligation to buy if a financial agreement is reached.
Leicester hopes to leverage Nelson’s previous relationship with their new boss, Steve Cooper, from England youth levels and the promise of regular first-team football to attract him.
Leicester has already signed Bobby De Cordova-Reid this summer and shown interest in Juventus’ Matias Soule, aiming to strengthen their wide options. Signing Nelson would add Premier League experience and boost their homegrown player quota.
Nelson debuted for Arsenal in the 2017/18 season but has played only 49 Premier League games in seven years, including loan spells at TSG Hoffenheim and Feyenoord.
His time in the Netherlands led to his reintegration into Arsenal’s first team, though most of his playing time came in the Europa League.
Nelson might not be the only forward leaving Arsenal this summer. Emile Smith Rowe is a target for Fulham, and Eddie Nketiah, who also signed a long-term contract hoping for more playing time, has been linked with a move to Marseille.
