Cardinals Release Key Offensive Lineman with Injury Designation as Intense Left Guard Battle Looms

The Arizona Cardinals have waived offensive lineman Carter O’Donnell with an injury designation, as announced by the team on Tuesday, marking the start of training camp.

The Cardinals’ first practice is scheduled for Wednesday, with the left guard position expected to be a highly competitive battle to finalize the starting offensive line for Week 1.

Carter O'Donnell

O’Donnell, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 305 pounds, played five games for the Cardinals last season, starting in three. He logged 170 snaps at left guard and 21 at right guard after being claimed from the Indianapolis Colts last August.

If O’Donnell clears waivers, he will revert to Arizona and be placed on injured reserve. The Cardinals would then have the option to either retain him or release him with an injury settlement.

The Cardinals currently have 17 offensive linemen on their training camp roster. Free-agent addition Evan Brown will vie for the left guard spot alongside veterans Elijah Wilkinson and Trystan Colon, rookie Isaiah Adams, and second-year player Jon Gaines II.
