The Indianapolis Colts are making a roster move by adding a former first-round pick as they enter training camp. To accommodate this addition, the Colts have released rookie undrafted free agent Xavier White.
White, who was signed by the Colts on May 9, 2024, had a versatile college career at Texas Tech. Standing at 5-10 and weighing 190 pounds, he played 51 games with nine starts, amassing 133 receptions for 1,524 yards and six touchdowns. He also contributed as a kick returner with 19 kickoff returns for 407 yards and five punt returns for 46 yards.
Despite his potential, White did not have sufficient time to demonstrate his abilities during training camp. He is expected to get another opportunity with a team in need of receivers during the preseason.
In White’s place, veteran receiver Laquon Treadwell has been signed. Treadwell, 6-2 and 215 pounds, has played 81 games across several teams, including the Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, and Minnesota Vikings. Originally drafted in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Treadwell has 111 career receptions for 1,242 yards and five touchdowns. In 2023, he played five games for the Ravens, recording one catch for 16 yards.
Treadwell will have the opportunity to prove himself in the preseason and potentially secure a spot on the Colts’ 53-man roster or practice squad. The Colts’ receiver group is currently ranked 22nd in the league by Pro Football Focus.
