The Jacksonville Jaguars aim to rebound in 2024 after a lackluster 2023 NFL season, during which they fell short of preseason expectations.
Despite high hopes, star quarterback Trevor Lawrence did not exhibit the expected growth, and the defense, which performed only moderately in both the run and pass game, did not offer much support.
In response, Jacksonville targeted improvements in their defense during the recent free agency period. They successfully signed Arik Armstead to a three-year, $51 million contract.
Armstead, who had spent his entire career with the San Francisco 49ers as a key defensive line player, was released and quickly signed by Jacksonville.
While Armstead is expected to be a solid addition to the team, he will miss parts of training camp as he has been placed on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list, as announced via the team’s official Twitter account.
We have placed DL Arik Armstead on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

“We have placed DL Arik Armstead on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list,” the Jaguars tweeted on July 20, 2024.
The PUP list is for players who cannot participate in training camp, and this move was anticipated since Armstead missed five games in 2023 due to a meniscus injury.
Though this isn’t ideal, there’s no need for alarm as players can be activated from the PUP list at any time before the regular season begins. Armstead is expected to be back on the field soon, but his status will need to be monitored.
