The Cincinnati Bengals are set for a comeback in 2024 after their 2023 NFL season was plagued by injuries to key players.
Joe Burrow missed the second half of the year due to a wrist injury, but he’s expected to be ready for the start of the 2024 season.
With Burrow and the rest of the offense expected to be healthy, Cincinnati should be seen as a strong contender in a competitive AFC.
Training camp begins this week, giving the Bengals a chance to integrate some of their new additions.
However, the team announced via their official Twitter account that a few players will be unavailable for the start of training camp and possibly the regular season:
“We have made the following transactions: – placed CB DJ Ivey and DT Devonnsha Maxwell on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list – placed TE Erick All Jr. on the Active/Non-Football Injury list”
DJ Ivey and Devonnsha Maxwell being on the PUP list means they’ll miss at least part of training camp but can be activated anytime before the regular season. Meanwhile, rookie Erick All Jr. is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in college and is likely to miss regular-season time.
Fortunately for Cincinnati, these absences shouldn’t impact the team’s overall outlook, as their core players should be ready.
A fully healthy Bengals team can compete with any team in the league, and it will be interesting to see how far they can go.
