Jye Menzie has signed a one-year extension with Essendon, securing his place at the club until at least the end of the 2025 season. The 21-year-old follows fellow rookie Vigo Visentini in committing to the club for the next year. After extending his contract last season, Menzie is eager to continue his development within Essendon’s promising young team.
“I’m thrilled to sign on with this great club. I’m optimistic about our direction and excited to be part of this journey,” Menzie stated. “I love the playing group, and we have so much potential to achieve together. I want to thank the coaches and staff for their support and for giving me this opportunity. My passion and drive remain as strong as the night I was drafted, and I look forward to what’s ahead.”
Menzie, selected with pick No. 15 in the 2022 Mid-Season Draft, has played 32 games and proven himself as a small forward, notably scoring 23 goals in 21 games during the 2023 season, finishing second in the club’s goalkicking. Under Senior Coach Brad Scott, Menzie has shown his versatility in 2024, playing various positions including wing and half-back, highlighted by a career-high 20 disposals in the King’s Birthday Eve match against Carlton.
This season, Menzie has played nine AFL games, showcasing his growing versatility and strong VFL performance with eight goals from five games primarily on the wing. General Manager – AFL Daniel McPherson praised Menzie’s development since joining the Bombers.
“Jye has shown determination and a willingness to improve since joining the club in 2022,” McPherson said. “He consistently takes feedback and embraces challenges. We look forward to his continued growth into 2025.”
