After being waived by the Miami Heat earlier this month, Orlando Robinson is now looking to secure a spot with the Houston Rockets. The 24-year-old center will join the Rockets’ Summer League team in Las Vegas starting this weekend, as announced by the team.
Last season, Robinson played in 36 games for the Heat, averaging 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 8.4 minutes per game. While his NBA stats were modest, he excelled in the G League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce. In nine games there, he posted impressive averages of 24.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game, shooting 57.5% from the field.
Despite showing promise, Robinson was edged out by Thomas Bryant for the Heat’s third center position. The Heat re-signed Bryant to a one-year deal and waived Robinson before his contract became fully guaranteed.
Robinson will now join a compelling Rockets Summer League roster, which features former first-round picks AJ Griffin and Kira Lewis Jr., along with Houston’s recent top picks Reed Sheppard and Cam Whitmore. The Rockets have already filled their 15 standard contract spots but still have an open two-way spot available. If Robinson performs well in Las Vegas, he could earn that final two-way contract spot.
