The Minnesota Twins were expected to have one of MLB’s top bullpens this season, and they’ve shown flashes of excellence, ranking in the top 10 in ERA (3.61) and home runs allowed. Griffen Jax has developed into a dominant late-inning reliever, and Jhoan Duran has recently returned to form.
However, they need additional support beyond these two. On Monday, Darren “Doogie” Wolfson (KSTP, SKOR North) reported that help is on the way with Brock Stewart starting a rehab assignment. Stewart has been on the injured list since May 3.
#MNTwins reliever Brock Stewart will begin a rehab assignment tomorrow w/ the Saints in Louisville. He went on the I.L. May 3rd due to right shoulder tendinitis. He’ll be a huge help moving forward, if all goes well this week. Has been great when healthy. pic.twitter.com/kZ3xiracJ5

In 2023, Stewart emerged as a top bullpen arm, posting a 0.65 ERA, 1.065 WHIP, and 2.21 FIP in 27.2 innings pitched. His ERA+ of 666 was extraordinary. He began 2024 strongly, with 16 strikeouts and a 0.68 ERA in 13.1 innings in April. However, after experiencing soreness during an April 29 appearance, he was diagnosed with right shoulder tendinitis and placed on the IR.
Stewart’s recovery faced setbacks, including a failed throwing session in June. However, recent developments are positive. If his rehab assignment goes well, Stewart could return to the Twins’ bullpen by late next week, following the All-Star break.
