Carlton to Part Ways with Key Trio Due to Financial Crisis as Rivals Mount Pressure

Three Carlton forwards reportedly haven’t received new contract offers from the Blues as the Victorian club seeks clarity on their salary cap situation for the upcoming year.

Despite having key players like Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay, and Patrick Cripps signed to long-term deals, and others like Jacob Weitering and Tom De Koning due for priority re-signing beyond 2024, Carlton is facing challenges with their remaining roster spots.

Notably, the Blues have secured new contracts for senior players including Blake Acres, Jordan Boyd, Alex Cincotta, Corey Durdin, Lachie Fogarty, Elijah Hollands, and Hudson O’Keeffe this year.

However, forwards Matt Owies, Jack Martin, and Jack Carroll have yet to receive offers. Negotiations with Owies and Carroll are ongoing, with hopes of retaining them. Owies, in particular, has increased his value with a career-best season, making him a target for other clubs seeking small forwards. West Coast has shown interest in Carroll, and WA clubs might pursue Martin due to his state ties despite his injury struggles.

Carlton also has several other players, including Domanic Akuei, Matt Carroll, David Cuningham, Sam Durdin, Cooper Lord, Caleb Marchbank, Alex Mirkov, and Rob Monahan, who remain unsigned for next year.
