In June, Michigan football had a standout month on the recruiting front, securing nine commitments in total, with eight of them coming from the 2025 class. This surge significantly boosted their ranking in the 2025 class standings on 247 Sports, moving them from outside the top 50 to within the top 15.
Looking ahead, Michigan’s recruiting momentum could continue to rise if they successfully land a few high-profile targets, such as five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 280 pounds, Babalola, who hails from Overland Park, Kansas, is currently ranked 26th overall in the 2025 class by the 247 Sports composite rankings.
During the weekend of June 14th, Babalola visited Michigan for an official visit, though he has also made official visits to Auburn, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Stanford. According to predictions from On3, Stanford currently holds a slight edge in Babalola’s recruitment, primarily due to their strong academic reputation. However, Chad Simmons, a recruiting analyst for On3.com, emphasized that Michigan remains a formidable contender, particularly due to their excellent academic programs and competitive football track record.
Simmons noted, “Stanford leads Michigan for the five-star offensive tackle, but only by an ‘inch or two.’ Stanford’s academic reputation speaks for itself, while Michigan excels as a top public school academically and boasts a strong football program with consistent success, championship contention, and player development.”
The fact that Babalola has yet to finalize his decision suggests that Michigan football is still very much in contention. If he prioritizes elite academics and a strong football tradition, Michigan stands out as the sole contender on his list that meets both criteria.
