TORONTO — Shawn Oakman appears to have found a new team in the CFL with the Edmonton Elks. According to TSN’s Dave Naylor, Oakman has signed with the Elks following his release from the Toronto Argonauts on June 11.

The 32-year-old former Baylor star spent the last three years with the Argonauts, during which he recorded 18 sacks and played a significant role in the team’s victory at the 109th Grey Cup in 2022. Oakman is a two-time East Division All-Star (2021, 2022) and was named a CFL All-Star in 2021.

In the 2023 season, Oakman achieved six sacks, 27 tackles, and a forced fumble over 15 games, contributing to the defense that led the Argonauts to a 16-2 record. However, he was placed on the one-game injured list before the Argos’ 2024 season opener, a 35-27 win against the BC Lions.
The Elks are currently on a bye week and will return to action on Sunday, July 14, when they host the Ottawa REDBLACKS.
