Blue Jays Hit by Injury Bug: Top Prospect Called Up as Replacement

Injury Woes Continue for Blue Jays: Kiner-Falefa Hits IL

The MLB injury troubles persist as Isiah Kiner-Falefa (IKF) has been placed on the 10-day IL due to a left knee sprain. In response, infielder Leo Jimenez has been called up from Triple-A and will be available for tonight’s game against the Houston Astros. IKF was absent from Monday’s lineup, with Davis Schneider stepping in at second base.

IKF has been a bright spot for the Blue Jays this season, particularly shining in June, which earned him a spot at the top of the lineup during the recent Canada Day game. His absence now opens opportunities for Ernie Clement and Addison Barger to see more action at third base. Meanwhile, Leo Jimenez, making his MLB debut, brings a .271 batting average from Triple-A Buffalo, along with seven home runs, 23 RBIs, and three stolen bases. The 23-year-old Panamanian is set to showcase his talents while IKF recovers.

Known for his defensive prowess, IKF has been an underrated offensive asset this season, highlighted by a notable 13-game hitting streak. The Blue Jays signed him in the offseason to replace Matt Chapman at third base, but IKF’s versatility has seen him cover multiple infield positions. With IKF sidelined, the Blue Jays’ lineup features several Triple-A Buffalo players, including Spencer Horwitz, who boasts a .310 batting average. Horwitz was promoted following Cavan Biggio’s DFA earlier this season and has continued his strong performance. While Jimenez has shown impressive numbers in Triple-A, fans are hopeful for a swift recovery for IKF.
