Carlton’s defender Jordan Boyd is set to miss the upcoming match against GWS due to a one-match suspension for a high bump on Richmond’s Rhyan Mansell.
The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of Carlton’s dominant 61-point victory over Richmond on Sunday. Mansell had just collected the ball near the boundary line when he was hit by Boyd, who was rushing in. As Mansell ducked his head, Boyd’s stomach made front-on contact with him. Mansell received a free kick for high contact and continued to play for the rest of the game.
Match review officer Michael Christian charged Boyd with rough conduct, categorizing the incident as careless conduct, high contact, and medium impact, resulting in a one-game suspension.
Boyd has been a key player for Carlton, participating in all 15 games this season and being an integral part of their backline. Unless Boyd successfully appeals the decision at the tribunal, he will miss Saturday’s away game against GWS at Engie Stadium, a crucial match as GWS is vying for a finals spot.
Carlton has until 11 am Tuesday to decide whether to accept the suspension or challenge it.
Additionally, Boyd’s teammate Nic Newman and Richmond’s Liam Baker can each accept a $1250 fine for wrestling during the game.
