Argonauts Bolster Defense with New Signings, Release Two Defensive Backs

The Toronto Argonauts have bolstered their roster by signing three American players: defensive back Robert Priester, defensive lineman Jay Person, and defensive back Mark Milton.

Robert Priester, standing five-foot-nine and weighing 180 pounds, returns to Toronto after a stint with the team in 2023, where he played five games and recorded three defensive tackles. The 30-year-old has a history with the Argonauts, having participated in 14 games in 2022, including the Eastern Final and Grey Cup. A native of Tampa, FL, Priester has also played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Edmonton Elks, and the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL between 2018 and 2021. Over his 19-game CFL career, he has accumulated 38 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, one sack, and two forced fumbles.

Jay Person, who measures six-foot-two and weighs 233 pounds, was recently associated with the New England Patriots in 2024 after signing with them in May. Hailing from Tennessee, Person had an impressive college career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 2019 to 2023. In 48 games, he registered 228 tackles, 27 sacks, 56 tackles for loss, nine forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and five knockdowns. His performance earned him AP All-American honors in 2022 and 2023, as well as his conference’s Defensive Player of the Year title in the same years. Before his tenure at Chattanooga, Person played briefly for Appalachian State in 2018.

Mark Milton, standing six-foot-one and weighing 185 pounds, recently signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in May and made his CFL debut on June 7 against Calgary before being released. A Baylor University alumnus, Milton signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in April 2023 but was released in November. During his time at Baylor from 2018 to 2022, the Houston native played 51 games, recording 97 tackles, one interception, nine knockdowns, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Additionally, the Argonauts announced the release of two American defensive backs, Marquis Waters and Darius Joiner.
