Ryan Papenhuyzen and Harry Grant will both miss the Melbourne Storm’s game against the Raiders on Saturday night. Papenhuyzen, who fractured a bone in his right leg last year, made a comeback in the Storm’s thrilling 30-24 victory over the Dolphins last Friday.
Before his injury, Papenhuyzen was in excellent NRL form during the first nine rounds and continued his try-scoring streak with an 11th-minute try against the Dolphins. His return also featured an impressive chase that nearly resulted in a remarkable try save.
However, Papenhuyzen, 26, did not train this week after suffering a heel injury during the victory. Although not severe, the Storm decided to rest him for the Raiders clash. Sua Faalogo will step in as fullback, having previously filled in for Papenhuyzen. Coach Craig Bellamy noted that Papenhuyzen hadn’t trained much due to soreness and that the heel injury, while initially thought to be minor, was still an issue. They didn’t want to risk aggravating it, leaving the final decision to Papenhuyzen based on his pain level.
Harry Grant and Xavier Coates were also sidelined after the Blues’ 38-18 win in State of Origin 2, where Grant sustained a cut to his head. Bellamy mentioned that one of the two might play, but they would decide by Saturday morning based on their conditions.
Bellamy anticipated a fast-paced game on a cold night at AAMI Park, highlighting Canberra’s strong record against the Storm and their talented players. He acknowledged the challenge posed by Raiders coach Ricky Stuart’s young additions, expecting a tough match.
