Despite a few recent losses, Juan Soto and the New York Yankees are dominating the competition this season. New York’s decision to acquire Soto in December is proving to be highly beneficial for the first-place Yankees. However, Soto’s contract only extends through the rest of the season.
MLB rules allow for in-season contract negotiations, but Soto plans to explore free agency for the first time in his career. The Yankees are currently facing their cross-town rivals in the Subway Series at Citi Field, where Soto was asked about the possibility of signing with the New York Mets, known for their hefty payroll. Soto’s response left the door open.
“We will see,” Soto said when asked about a potential Mets contract offer. “In the offseason we will figure it out. I’ll let [agent Scott Boras] do his thing. We’re going to see.”
Soto is letting his agent handle the negotiations, but his comments suggest he doesn’t have a specific preference between staying with the Yankees or joining the Mets. While his future team is uncertain, it is clear that Soto will secure one of the largest contracts in MLB history.
