After retiring as a player, Hughes transitioned into coaching, with his first role at Bolton, where he also briefly served as the first-team manager about ten years ago. Since then, he has gained experience working with various clubs, including Huddersfield, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, and Norwich, making him a solid appointment.

Meanwhile, Ben Petty has left his position as head of Leicester’s U-21 development team to join Chris Davies at Birmingham as his assistant manager. Both Petty and Davies have a history with Leicester.

Petty concluded his tenure at Leicester on a high note, keeping the U-21 team competitive despite numerous changes throughout the season. He managed to get many of his best players back towards the final stages, leading to improved results. Petty, who joined Leicester in 2016 from Aston Villa, where he also coached development teams, previously played for clubs such as Stoke and Hull.
