Blues Secure Another Key Player for the Future

Carlton’s list manager announced that Blake Acres’ ability to remain composed under pressure has earned him a two-year contract extension, keeping him with the club through 2027.

The key wingman looks set to conclude his career with his third club, having played 39 out of a possible 40 games for Carlton since transferring from Fremantle last season.

Acres, 28, has maintained his consistent performance from his first season at Ikon Park. He was a standout in Carlton’s dominant win over Geelong, recording 24 disposals, eight marks, and a goal on Saturday night.

He delivered an exceptional performance in Carlton’s breakthrough elimination final win against Sydney last year, making two crucial saves and scoring a decisive late goal.

Carlton’s head of list management, Nick Austin, stated that the new contract is well-deserved based on Acres’ contributions.

“Blake is a talented and dependable player, with a significant impact on play at both ends of the field,” Austin said. “He demonstrates great composure in high-pressure situations. He understands his role and consistently fulfills it for the team.

“Embracing various roles has become a hallmark of our playing group, and Blake has been a leader in this aspect.”

In related news, the Western Bulldogs have extended small forward Rhylee West’s contract for two more years after his impressive four-goal performance against Fremantle in his 50th game last week.

The 23-year-old son of club legend Scott West expressed his excitement about his future at Whitten Oval.

Drafted with the 26th pick in 2018, West is on track for his most prolific season, already achieving a career-high 17 goals in 2024.

“I’m happy to be here at this footy club. Since I joined six years ago, the group has been very close. I’ve grown with this group and watched them grow as well,” West said.

“Reflecting on my journey, it’s been a longer path to 50 games, but I’m grateful for how it has unfolded. Without those challenges, I wouldn’t be where I am now.”
