Highly sought-after ruckman Ned Moyle has opted to extend his tenure with the Gold Coast SUNS, rebuffing interest from other clubs to commit to a new four-year contract that ties him to the club until the conclusion of 2028.
Since joining the SUNS as the fifth overall pick in the 2021 mid-season draft, the 22-year-old Moyle has steadily ascended as a promising talent within the AFL ranks. Under the guidance of SUNS captain Jarrod Witts, Moyle has flourished and expressed his enthusiasm for contributing to the team’s upward trajectory.
“I genuinely enjoy playing for the Gold Coast SUNS and felt a strong desire to remain loyal and showcase my abilities in the AFL in the years ahead,” Moyle remarked. “My goal is to establish myself as a consistent AFL ruckman, and learning the intricacies of the craft from Jarrod on a daily basis has been an invaluable developmental opportunity that I wouldn’t trade for anything.”
Moyle, who filled in admirably for Witts in four AFL matches during 2024, emphasized the impact of Witts’ mentorship on his growth as a player. He looks forward to continuing his hard work towards securing a regular spot in the SUNS’ lineup.
The decision to re-sign Moyle was hailed as a significant achievement for the SUNS by General Manager of Player Talent and Strategy Craig Cameron. “Ned has demonstrated his ability to compete at the AFL level,” Cameron noted. “His patience and dedication to refining his ruck skills, coupled with learning from one of the League’s premier ruckmen in Jarrod Witts, underscores his potential impact on our club’s long-term success.”
Moyle’s accolades include being named in the VFL Team of the Year in 2022 and playing a pivotal role in the SUNS’ VFL premiership triumph in 2023, where he recorded an impressive 73 hitouts in the Grand Final victory over Werribee.
In committing his future to the Gold Coast SUNS, Moyle has underscored his commitment to contributing to the club’s ambitions for sustained success in the AFL, solidifying his position as a rising star within the league.
