The Chicago Bulls are aiming to re-sign center Andre Drummond, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Drummond, an unrestricted free agent, has also attracted interest from the New York Knicks.
“Heading into free agency, Chicago would also like to re-sign center Andre Drummond,” reported Scotto, citing league sources. “There’s also an outside chance the Knicks make a run at Andre Drummond.”
Drummond played 79 games for the Bulls in the 2023-24 season, averaging 8.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. He shot 55.6% from the field and 59.2% from the free-throw line, recording 18 double-doubles. The Bulls nearly traded Drummond to the Philadelphia 76ers before withdrawing from negotiations at the 2024 trade deadline. He also drew interest from the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and Houston Rockets.
The Bulls missed the playoffs again this year, having only made one postseason appearance since trading Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2017. They were eliminated by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the 2022 playoffs in five games.
Drummond is regarded as one of the best rebounders in NBA history, with career averages of 12.7 points, 12.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks. His career includes stints with the Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, Lakers, Sixers, Brooklyn Nets, and Bulls.
Meanwhile, the Knicks were defeated by the Indiana Pacers in a seven-game series during the second round of the 2024 playoffs. New York is keen to retain OG Anunoby and Isaiah Hartenstein. However, to keep Hartenstein, they may need to trade Mitchell Robinson.
