HAMILTON — On Wednesday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced the signing of two American players, tight end Camren McDonald and defensive back Kordell Rodgers.
McDonald, 24, had previously participated in training camp with the Tiger-Cats earlier this year, having signed with the team in May. The six-foot-four, 245-pound native of Long Beach, California, also had brief stints in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers in 2023. McDonald enjoyed a notable college career at Florida State University, where he played in 58 games over five seasons (2018-2022). During his time at Florida State, he recorded 74 receptions for 861 yards and five touchdowns, showcasing his skills as a reliable and productive tight end.
Rodgers, 25, made his mark in the CFL last season with the Montreal Alouettes, where he played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He registered 37 total tackles, two tackles for loss, three pass knockdowns, and two interceptions, highlighting his effectiveness as a defensive back. Before turning professional, Rodgers had an impressive college career at Texas State University, where he played in 51 games over six seasons (2017-2022). At Texas State, the five-foot-11, 175-pound native of Lufkin, Texas, accumulated 156 total tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, seven interceptions, 25 passes defended, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. His college performance demonstrated his ability to make impactful plays and his versatility in the defensive backfield.
In addition to these signings, the Tiger-Cats announced the release of two American players, wide receiver Kaylon Geiger and defensive back Mark Milton. Geiger and Milton’s departure opens up roster spots for McDonald and Rodgers, who bring a combination of NFL experience and college performance to the team.
McDonald’s size and experience in the NFL are expected to bolster the Tiger-Cats’ offensive options, while Rodgers’ proven track record in the CFL and his versatility will strengthen the team’s defense. The addition of these two players reflects the Tiger-Cats’ commitment to enhancing their roster as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
The Tiger-Cats’ decision to sign McDonald and Rodgers comes as part of their ongoing efforts to build a competitive team. With McDonald’s proven ability as a tight end and Rodgers’ strong defensive skills, the team is poised to benefit from their contributions on the field. As the Tiger-Cats continue to prepare for the season, the new additions are expected to play key roles in the team’s pursuit of victory.
