EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks have signed National receiver Frederik Antoine to the practice roster, the team announced Tuesday.
Antoine, 26, was drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in the fifth round as the 47th overall pick in the 2024 CFL Draft. Hailing from Quebec, Antoine attended the Alouettes training camp and appeared in one preseason game before being released in early June.
During his college career at Laval University from 2022 to 2023, Antoine made an impact with 29 receptions for 330 yards and one touchdown in 13 games. His standout performance was instrumental in helping the Rouge et Or win the Vanier Cup in 2022.
In a corresponding move, the Elks have released National fullback Bruno Lagacé.
The Elks return to practice on Tuesday, gearing up for their away game against the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday, June 22. This move not only enhances the Elks’ receiving depth but also adds valuable experience to their practice squad, bolstering their overall team roster.
Antoine’s addition to the practice squad offers the Elks a fresh and dynamic playmaker, potentially adding more depth to the receiving corps. His college success and brief stint with the Alouettes reflect his potential as a reliable target in both the passing and running game.
As the Elks prepare for their upcoming match against the Toronto Argonauts, the team hopes that Antoine’s presence on the practice squad will pay dividends in future games, offering valuable insights and experience to the coaching staff and the team’s overall performance.
This strategic roster move signifies the Elks’ commitment to strengthening their squad and fine-tuning their game plan as they continue to build momentum throughout the season. With Antoine’s skillset and his experiences thus far, the Elks aim to enhance their overall performance and achieve more favorable outcomes in their games ahead.
