The Philadelphia Eagles experienced one of the worst collapses in recent NFL history during the 2023 season. After appearing to be strong Super Bowl contenders, they completely fell apart.
Despite managing to make it to the playoffs, the Eagles were eliminated in the Wild Card round by Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Heading into the offseason, Philadelphia aimed for significant changes. They hired new offensive and defensive coordinators, and GM Howie Roseman made aggressive roster adjustments.
Both Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox decided to retire, leaving big shoes to fill. However, the Eagles still have a competitive roster.
Brandon Graham, one of the team’s longtime stars, cited a major reason for the 2023 collapse. He pointed to the coaching staff as a significant issue, stating, “We didn’t have all the right coaches in the right positions. You can see the guys truly believing in what’s going on now. I’m excited for the young guys and new rookies coming in – they’re going to get a good taste of what it is to be in the NFL.”
Graham’s comments highlight the coaching staff’s role in the Eagles’ struggles. Many believed head coach Nick Sirianni might lose his job, but he remains, albeit on the hot seat. If the Eagles don’t succeed in 2024, a coaching change could be imminent.
Ideally, the Eagles will start and finish the next season strong. On paper, they have the potential to be Super Bowl contenders, but they need to prove it on the field.
