The Boston Red Sox promoted Nick Yorke from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.
Yorke, a first-round pick by Boston in the 2020 MLB Draft, spent 2023 in Portland, appearing in 110 games. The infielder finished with a .258 batting average, a .435 slugging percentage, 13 home runs, 61 RBIs, and eight stolen bases. He began the 2024 season in Double-A, batting .251 with four home runs and 27 RBIs in 45 games.
Although his statistics may not stand out, Yorke has made improvements, notably reducing his strikeout percentage from 24.1% to 18.2%.
In addition to his performance at the plate, Yorke has demonstrated versatility by transitioning from infield to outfield this season, playing 12 error-free games in left field. This change came after Boston traded Chris Sale to the Atlanta Braves for Vaughn Grissom, prompting adjustments in the team’s lineup.
Yorke’s flexibility extends beyond positional changes, as he remains focused on reaching the big leagues regardless of his role. Despite the Red Sox’s initial hopes of securing a long-term solution at second base with Grissom, Yorke’s promotion signifies ongoing opportunities within the organization.
Yorke wasted no time acclimating to Triple-A Worcester, immediately joining the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Rochester Red Wings, batting sixth and playing second base.
