Cubs’ top prospect Cade Horton is out with a lat strain, as reported by NBC Sports Chicago. According to Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times, Horton, who is dealing with a “moderate subscap strain,” cannot start throwing for 3-4 weeks.

Horton, 22, has made his debut at the Triple-A level this season with the Iowa Cubs, posting a 7.50 ERA over five starts and 18 innings, striking out 22 and walking 11. In Double-A, he recorded a 1.10 ERA across four starts, striking out 18 batters in 16.1 innings.
Horton is not only the Cubs’ top prospect but also ranks as MLB.com’s No. 17 overall prospect. He was drafted seventh overall by the Cubs in the 2022 MLB entry draft. In his first professional season, he earned the Cubs’ Minor League Pitcher of the Year title, thanks to a 2.65 ERA while advancing through the minors to Double-A.
