No player has been more impactful in their short tenure with the Minnesota Twins over the past two seasons than Royce Lewis. Known as “Mr. Grand Slam,” he began the season with a home run against the Kansas City Royals before landing on the injured list. As he nears a return, his comeback is imminent next week.
The Minnesota Twins entered the 2024 MLB season with high expectations for Royce Lewis. Fully recovered and slated to play third base alongside Carlos Correa, his power-hitting and dynamic presence were anticipated daily assets for manager Rocco Baldelli. Unfortunately, his season was abruptly interrupted by a severe quad injury.
St. Paul Saints are in Rochester through Sunday. #MNTwins open a series at the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
Dedicated Twins fans should probably get their "I Love Royce" signs ready and stand along I-81S on Sunday afternoon/evening.— DanHayesMLB (@DanHayesMLB) May 30, 2024
Is Royce Lewis in New York?
Lewis has advanced to playing rehab games with the Triple-A St. Paul Saints and is currently competing in upstate New York against the Rochester Red Wings, a former Twins Triple-A affiliate. This positions him close to rejoining the major league team next week in the Bronx for their series against the Yankees.
While a trip to Texas might have been enjoyable for Royce Lewis as a brief homecoming, it’s more practical for him to refine his timing first. The Twins have a three-game series with the Houston Astros starting Friday, followed by an off-day and then three games in New York against the Yankees.
Royce Lewis is poised to shine for the Twins under the bright lights
Few venues in MLB are as iconic as Yankee Stadium. Although the current stadium isn’t the original historic site, playing against the Yankees at home always attracts attention. Royce Lewis is undoubtedly one of the brightest talents in the sport.
Recently, Aaron Boone’s New York Yankees visited Target Field and swept the Twins in a three-game series, which sparked a seven-game losing streak for Minnesota. Looking to avenge those losses, the Twins would welcome a sweep in New York to even the season series.

Lewis quickly made his presence known this season, returning with a perfect batting average and an impressive 3.500 OPS. With a home run and a single already under his belt, Rocco Baldelli will be counting on his contributions.
