The Denver Broncos are currently in the second week of their three-week voluntary organized team activities (OTAs). This phase started on May 28 and will end on May 30, with the third week set to run from June 3 to June 6.
So far, nine players missed the first week of OTAs, including a key Pro Bowl offensive player who continues his holdout.
Courtland Sutton, the Broncos’ Pro Bowl wide receiver, has been absent from OTAs. He also skipped voluntary workouts in April. Sutton is in the third year of his four-year, $60.8 million contract, with a $13 million base salary $2 million guaranteed, and a cap hit of $17,395,576 for 2024. For 2025, his base salary is $13.5 million with no guaranteed money and a cap hit of $17,825,000. He is seeking a raise and more guaranteed money.
NFL insider Jeremy Fowler suggests Sutton is looking for an additional $2 to $3 million. “He’s due about $13.6 million in cash this year,” Fowler said via Heavy’s Josh Buckhalter. “He’d like to see that get up, maybe in that $15-$16 million range. We’ll see if they can find a sweet spot.”
Head coach Sean Payton isn’t worried about Sutton missing OTAs. “There isn’t any concern,” Payton said. “Here’s why: I know Courtland. He’s a tremendous worker. You guys know him. [He has] a tremendous makeup, leader of our team. That will sort itself out.”
The Broncos have been in talks with Sutton and his representatives, but no significant progress has been made, according to Jeremy Fowler. Whether the contract dispute will be resolved before training camp remains uncertain.
