The Toronto Argonauts have added American quarterback John Matocha to their roster.
The 5’11”, 195-pound player excelled at the Colorado School of Mines, achieving a 50-7 record as a starter. He amassed 15,006 passing yards, 162 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions, along with 1,982 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns.
Hailing from Magnolia, Texas, Matocha holds the NCAA Division II records for passing touchdowns, career quarterback rating, and most career games with a touchdown pass. He is also second in completion percentage and third in passing yards.
Matocha earned the Harlon Hill Award in 2022, given to the NCAA Division II Player of the Year, and was the runner-up in 2023. He recently participated in the Denver Broncos’ rookie minicamp but was not signed.
The Argonauts are set to play their final preseason game on Friday, May 31, against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
