Bombers’ Key Forward Out: Essendon to Face Top Rivals Without Star

Harrison Jones will miss Essendon’s Dreamtime at the ‘G clash this Saturday night against Richmond, as the key forward has been given a one-match suspension for a dangerous tackle on North Melbourne’s Zac Fisher.

The incident occurred in the second quarter of Essendon’s 40-point victory, when Jones tackled Fisher with a swinging dump, causing Fisher’s head to make contact with the ground. This action was classified as careless conduct with medium impact and high contact, leading to the one-match ban. Unless Essendon challenges the decision, Jones will be sidelined for the marquee event against the Tigers.

In the same match, North Melbourne forward Paul Curtis was fined for tripping Essendon’s Ben Hobbs in the third quarter. Curtis faces a $1250 fine with an early plea, which increases to $1875 if he unsuccessfully contests the decision.

Additionally, the Adelaide Oval match between Port Adelaide and Hawthorn saw four charges, two involving Brownlow contender Zak Butters. Butters was fined $3125 for a first-quarter melee and $10000 for rough conduct on Hawthorn ruckman Lloyd Meek in the third quarter. Early pleas could reduce these fines to $1875 and $6250, respectively. Hawthorn’s Jack Ginnivan was fined $1250 for his role in the melee, and Port Adelaide’s Willem Drew received a $2500 fine for careless, low impact, high contact on Hawthorn’s Jai Newcombe, which could be reduced with an early plea.
