The LA Chargers surprised many by retaining pass rushers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa, despite their tight cap situation, which led to expectations of parting ways with at least one of them to retain receiver Keenan Allen. However, Mack and Bosa agreed to restructured contracts, while Allen was traded to Chicago. Coach Jim Harbaugh will be banking on Mack and Bosa to deliver in 2024, considering Allen’s significance to the offense.
As Mack ages (he turned 33 in February) and Bosa’s durability becomes a concern, it would be wise for the Chargers to bolster their pass rush. They’re reportedly exploring the option of signing free agent Bud Dupree, who visited LA recently. The Steelers and Falcons are also in contention for Dupree.
Dupree, a former first-round pick, had a successful stint with the Steelers before signing a hefty contract with the Titans, which didn’t pan out due to injuries. He rejuvenated his career with the Falcons, posting solid numbers in 2023.
Free-agent LB Bud Dupree concluded a visit with the Los Angeles Chargers, per source. Dupree also has been talking with the Falcons and Steelers, two of the three NFL teams for which he has played.

The Chargers have limited depth in their edge rusher department beyond Mack, Bosa, and Tuli Tuipulotu. While Dupree may be slowing down at 31, his experience and skills would be valuable for Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.
However, the Chargers face stiff competition from the Steelers, where Dupree spent several productive years and remains open to returning. It’ll be a challenge for the Chargers to outbid their AFC rivals, but Harbaugh’s recruiting abilities might play a crucial role.
