Injury Troubles Persist: Key Red Sox Player Added to Injury List

The Boston Red Sox are set to place another player on the injured list ahead of their matchup with the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. Masataka Yoshida is the latest addition to the injured list for Boston.

According to Boston manager Alex Cora, Yoshida will be sidelined due to an injury, although the exact timing of his placement on the injured list is yet to be confirmed. Nevertheless, it is expected to happen before the start of the game at Fenway Park, scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET with pregame coverage on NESN.

Yoshida underwent an MRI on Wednesday after injuring his hand during an at-bat against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. His playing time had been inconsistent prior to the injury, and he was replaced by Rob Refsnyder during the sixth inning of the game against the Cubs.

This injury adds to the Red Sox’s ongoing challenges with roster management, marking the 13th player from Boston to hit the injured list this season.

To address the roster gaps, Boston made some moves earlier in the day. Zack Short is expected to join the team for the upcoming game against San Francisco, following his acquisition from the New York Mets for cash considerations. Additionally, there are reports of the team nearing a deal with infielder Dominic Smith.
