The New York Giants were apparently earnest in their pursuit to acquire a quarterback during the initial round of the NFL Draft. Reports indicate that they made a significant offer to the New England Patriots, proposing to trade their 6th overall pick along with their first-round selection for 2025 in exchange for the 3rd pick. Similarly, the Minnesota Vikings also made a substantial bid for the Patriots’ pick, involving their 11th and 23rd picks in addition to a first-round selection for 2025.
However, despite these enticing offers, the Patriots remained steadfast in their decision not to trade the pick. This determination was reinforced by the involvement of coaches Brian Daboll and Kevin O’Connell, both renowned for their offensive expertise, in the trade talks.
It was evident that the Giants had their sights set on Drake Maye, evidenced by their decision to pass on JJ McCarthy with the 6th pick. This aligns with previous reports indicating the Giants’ interest in Maye and their efforts to move up in the draft to secure him.
While the Patriots’ former head coach might have reservations about Maye, the current leadership of the team evidently holds a different perspective. This is evident from their rejection of substantial trade offers in favor of selecting him.
