In Atlanta, ahead of a highly anticipated weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians, second baseman Ozzie Albies has been reinstated to the active roster by the Atlanta Braves. This move sets the stage for a showdown between the two teams boasting the best records in Major League Baseball.
Albies has made a timely return from the 10-day injured list following a fractured right big toe. His injury occurred when he was struck on the foot by a curveball from Houston rookie Spencer Arrighetti during an Atlanta victory on April 15. Remarkably, Albies continued to play in the game, only realizing the extent of his injury when he removed his shoe.
During Albies’ absence, Luis Guillorme and David Fletcher shared playing time at second base, contributing to the Braves’ impressive 7-1 record during that period, elevating them to the top spot in baseball with a record of 17-6.
However, the Braves eagerly awaited Albies’ return, given his stature as a three-time All-Star and his stellar performance thus far in the season, boasting a batting average of .317 with two home runs and 14 RBIs.
As Albies rejoins the lineup, David Fletcher has been reassigned to Triple-A Gwinnett following the team’s decision.
