After a lengthy three-month wait without any firm commitments, the Michigan Wolverines have secured a significant addition to their 2024 recruiting class: four-star defensive lineman Nate Marshall. Standing tall at 6-foot-4 and weighing 265 pounds, Marshall originates from Oak Park, Illinois, and recently visited the campus during the spring game weekend. He had previously attended Michigan’s triumphant game against Ohio State last November, marking their third consecutive victory over their rivals.
Marshall had also been contemplating offers from other notable schools like Miami, Alabama, and Ohio State. Scheduled official visits to Miami, Alabama, and Illinois for the summer were on the horizon, prompting speculation about whether he would follow through with them or reconsider in light of his commitment to Michigan.
Notably, Marshall’s commitment marks the first success on the recruiting path for head coach Sherrone Moore. Allen Trieu, from 247Sports, assessed Marshall’s skills back in January, highlighting his versatility derived from a background in basketball and offense. Trieu praised Marshall’s ability to transition his athleticism to defense, showcasing agility, and determination on the field. Despite needing to refine technical aspects like handwork and strength, Marshall’s potential as a starter for a high-level program and possibly beyond college is evident.

Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class now boasts four commitments, with Marshall joining the ranks alongside four-star quarterback Carter Smith, four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka, and four-star tight end Eli Owens, the latest addition who committed on January 4th. Marshall’s impressive rankings place him as the top prospect from Illinois, fourth among defensive linemen, and thirty-fifth overall in 247Sports’ composite rankings.
