Despite today’s rainout, the Cubs made two roster adjustments shortly after the game was postponed.
Initially, they reinstated Jameson Taillon from the injured list, who was slated to start Thursday night’s game. Whether he will take the mound on Friday afternoon remains uncertain.
Taillon encountered back problems during Spring Training but has since recovered. His preparation for the season consisted of two rehab starts at Triple-A Iowa.
Although Taillon had a shaky start last year, his performance improved significantly over his last 16 appearances, suggesting he might replicate that success this season, which would be beneficial for the Cubs.
Additionally, Patrick Wisdom returned from the injured list on Thursday. Like Taillon, he also suffered a back injury during Spring Training, limiting him to just six spring games. However, he showcased promising form during his rehab stint at Iowa, indicating his readiness to contribute.
To accommodate Taillon and Wisdom on the 26-man active roster, the Cubs executed the following maneuvers:
– Miles Mastrobuoni was sent down to Iowa. He struggled in limited appearances this year, going hitless in twelve at-bats across eight games.
– Hayden Wesneski was also optioned to Iowa. Despite a notable performance in Arizona on Wednesday, where he threw 43 pitches, he might be considered for Saturday’s doubleheader as the 27th man due to his availability to pitch an inning or two.
