Pittsburgh Pirates southpaw Aroldis Chapman received a two-game suspension and an undisclosed fine on Thursday due to his “inappropriate conduct” during a recent game against the New York Mets. Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s senior vice president for on-field operations, announced the disciplinary action. The suspension takes effect on Friday, coinciding with the Pirates’ game against Boston, though Chapman has the option to appeal, which would postpone the penalty until the appeal process concludes.
Chapman (0-1) was thrown out of the game by plate umpire Edwin Moscoso after Harrison Bader hit a double in the eighth inning of the Pirates’ 6-3 defeat to the Mets. Pirates manager Derek Shelton noted that Chapman evidently made remarks that didn’t sit well with the umpire.
