The San Diego Padres placed pitcher Yu Darvish on the 15-day injured list due to neck tightness on Wednesday, retroactive to Sunday, before their game against the Brewers in Milwaukee. In his place, right-hander Logan Gillaspie was called up from Triple-A El Paso.
Darvish, aged 37, holds a record of 0-1 with a 4.18 ERA in five starts this season. His latest performance saw him pitching five innings, conceding three runs in a 6-3 victory against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, where he did not receive a decision.
Originally set to start on Saturday against Toronto in San Diego, Darvish’s injury led to his absence. Notably, during the 2023 season, Darvish did not spend any time on the injured list, posting a record of 8-10 with a 4.56 ERA in 24 starts for San Diego.
Gillaspie, who celebrated his 27th birthday on Wednesday, has appeared in five relief outings for El Paso this season, accumulating a 9.00 ERA. He previously pitched for the Orioles in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
