Seattle Seahawks veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett is set to embark on his tenth season with the NFL franchise, having renegotiated his two-year contract with the team he’s considered his “home” since being drafted in 2015.
The revised contract involves adjustments to the guaranteed portion of the 31-year-old’s salary, along with reallocating $4 million towards performance-based incentives. Additionally, Lockett will receive a signing bonus, resulting in an $8 million reduction in his cap number to continue his tenure with the Seahawks.
Expressing his attachment to Seattle, Lockett stated, “Seattle is home. It’s a business, so you have to consider what’s beneficial for both parties. I’m grateful for the opportunity to stay with the team.”
Acknowledging discussions surrounding his contract, Lockett emphasized his gratitude for the situation he’s in, emphasizing the importance of being wanted by the team.
Former NFL star and Seahawks wide receiver Michael Bumpus lauded Lockett’s significance in the team’s locker room, noting his role as a stabilizing presence among the receivers. While acknowledging DK Metcalf’s talent, Bumpus highlighted Lockett’s calm demeanor and consistent work ethic, likening him to Seahawks legend Bobby Engram, emphasizing the value of veteran leadership within the team.
