The Pittsburgh Pirates concluded the rehab assignment of right-handed reliever Colin Holderman and brought him back from the 15-day injured list.
During his time on the injured list, Holderman, who had lost 15 pounds due to illness during spring training, had mixed results. He allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning in his first outing on March 29, but improved in his subsequent appearances for Triple-A Indianapolis, limiting opponents to just one hit across three scoreless innings. Holderman joined the Pirates’ taxi squad on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old pitcher, known for his sinkerball style, posted a record of 0-3 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.34 WHIP, along with two saves, as a setup man in 56 innings over 58 games last season. He averaged 9.3 strikeouts and 3.2 walks per nine innings.
In other roster moves, the Pirates sent two other right-handed relievers, Ryder Ryan on Tuesday and Carmen Mlodzinski on Wednesday, to Indianapolis after Mlodzinski completed his rehab assignment for right elbow inflammation.
