The Canterbury Bulldogs achieved a remarkable upset victory over the Sydney Roosters on Friday evening, but it came with a heavy toll as seven players sustained injuries during the intense match.
Blake Taaffe, Harrison Edwards, Connor Tracey, Kurt Mann, Max King, Viliame Kikau, and Chris Patolo all suffered injuries during the game. Additionally, Blake Wilson withdrew late due to illness rather than injury.
Taaffe suffered a Category 1 concussion and failed his HIA, rendering him unavailable for the next week’s match. Tracey will undergo scans for a torn calf and Wilson will be fit for selection. However, there’s some positive news as Cameron Ciraldo confirmed Josh Addo-Carr’s return for the upcoming game against the Melbourne Storm.
Ciraldo mentioned that Tracey played through the second half with a calf strain, affecting his performance. He also provided assurance about Taaffe’s condition, stating he was doing well.
In further injury updates, Kikau and King will undergo scans for a fibula fracture and wrist injury, respectively. Mann may require surgery for a fractured hand, indicating a lengthy sideline period. Patolo didn’t return due to a shoulder injury, and Edwards will also miss some time due to a neck injury sustained in the second half.
Ciraldo expressed concern for Edwards’ neck injury but hoped for a positive outcome after medical evaluation. Edwards initially felt discomfort in his neck but showed improvement afterward.
