The Brisbane Broncos have verified that Adam Reynolds sustained only a minor hamstring injury, while outside back Deine Mariner will be out of action for several weeks.
Reynolds was absent from the second half of Brisbane’s Thursday night game against the Melbourne Storm, exiting the field with dismay after injuring his hamstring.
Initial concerns centered around the severity of the injury, suggesting he might face a prolonged absence. However, Brisbane has now issued an update indicating that scans have revealed only a minor strain to his hamstring.
“Adam underwent scans back in Brisbane today at the Qscan Clive Berghofer Facility which revealed a minor hamstring strain – we will see how he pulls up in the coming days before he works into a rehab program,” stated Brisbane’s head of performance Dave Ballard, confirming the update.
This development means Reynolds could potentially play in the upcoming derby against the Dolphins next weekend, though he may still miss one or two matches. Given the risk associated with hamstring strains, Brisbane is likely to proceed cautiously with their experienced halfback, especially at this early stage of the season.
Meanwhile, Brisbane has disclosed that Mariner has sustained a back fracture, which is expected to keep him out of action for approximately three to four weeks.
“Deine was scanned in Melbourne after the game, showing a transverse process fracture in his back. Players with similar injuries have returned to play within 3-4 weeks so it will be a matter of assessing how quickly Deine recovers,” Ballard explained.
This injury could result in Corey Oates being included in the starting lineup as a wing for Brisbane in the coming weeks. However, the Broncos might explore alternative options, considering Oates has recently been utilized in the forward positions off the bench while Brendan Piakura has been sidelined.
