The Mets’ initial series of the season turned out to be disastrous, as they suffered a sweep by the Brewers. However, their troubles worsened as starting pitcher Tylor Megill exited the final game prematurely due to shoulder tenderness. The team is taking precautionary measures by sending him for an MRI.
If Megill were to require time on the injured list, the Mets have a few options for his replacement. Although promoting pitching prospects from Triple-A seems improbable, both Joey Lucchesi and José Butto have recently started games in Syracuse. Either of them would be slightly ahead in rotation and could potentially fill Megill’s spot in the major league rotation.
During his outing today, Megill pitched four innings, striking out four, walking three, and conceding two runs, one of which was earned, on three hits.
