Brisbane Broncos captain Adam Reynolds has shared that young playmaker Ezra Mam is determined to secure the team’s No.7 jersey for the long haul and evolve into a leadership role on the field.
As Mam’s half-partner, Reynolds envisions the potential for the 21-year-old to eventually take charge of the team’s gameplay. “Despite his stature, he possesses remarkable strength and speed. He envisions himself as a long-term orchestrator of the game—aiming to step into the No.7 position once I retire,” Reynolds revealed to Wide World of Sports’ Freddy and the Eighth.
Reynolds, recently extended until 2025, is full of praise for Mam’s natural talent, physical prowess, and hunger for self-improvement. “He shares similarities with Reece Walsh—an instinctive player who trusts his abilities,” Reynolds noted. “Mam is constantly seeking knowledge, much like Walsh, eager to grasp the intricacies of the game and refine his skills.”
With reports suggesting Walsh’s long-term commitment to the club, Brisbane’s prospects for a premiership appear promising, particularly with Mam poised to take the reins in the future. Mam solidified his position as the Broncos’ primary five-eighth last season, equalling the NRL’s record for most tries in a season by a half with 18 impressive scores in 2023.
His standout performance in the 2023 grand final, where he scored three tries within 10 minutes, catapulting the Broncos to a commanding 24-8 lead in the second half, further confirmed his status as one of the league’s top No.6 players.
Last month, Mam extended his contract with the Broncos until 2029, further underlining his commitment to the club’s future. His selection in Queensland’s extended State of Origin squad further underscores his rising prominence in the rugby league landscape.
