The departure of Quez Watkins from the Philadelphia Eagles marks the end of an era, as the free-agent wide receiver is set to join the Pittsburgh Steelers, as reported by NFL insider Jeremy Fowler.
Initially viewed as a promising find for the Eagles when selected in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Watkins showcased his speed and potential, recording 43 receptions for 647 yards and one touchdown in the 2021 season.
However, his performance has declined since then, with his statistics dipping over the past two years. Despite limited opportunities as the Eagles’ third wide receiver behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Watkins failed to capitalize on his chances, often encountering setbacks whenever targeted by the team. This trend is supported by his declining passer rating when targeted, dropping from 79.3 in 2022 to 67.8 in 2023.
Given these circumstances, it comes as no surprise that the Eagles opted not to retain him. Instead, they have brought in veterans DeVante Parker and Parris Campbell to compete for the WR3 role, with further competition expected from the 2024 NFL Draft.

In Pittsburgh, Watkins will reunite with former Eagles vice president of player personnel, now Steelers assistant general manager, Andy Weidl.
