The Wests Tigers reportedly have their sights set on securing the future of junior talent Heamasi Makasini, who has impressed club officials during this year’s Harold Matthews Cup.
Makasini, a player for the Western Suburbs Magpies, has been a standout performer in recent weeks, tallying an impressive 64 points in four games, including six tries and 20 goals.
Currently part of the Under-16s NSW Waratahs team and having represented the Under-16s Australian rugby union side last year, Makasini has garnered interest not only from the Tigers but also from several rival clubs, according to reports from The Daily Telegraph.
The publication indicates that the Wests Tigers recently held a meeting with Makasini, attended by NRL coach Benji Marshall, CEO Shane Richardson, General Manager of Football Matthew Betsey, Makasini’s parents, and his agent Mario Tartak.
Betsey emphasized Makasini’s status as a promising local junior within the Tigers’ development system, highlighting the club’s commitment to nurturing talented players emerging through their pathways.

Described as a Newington College Year 11 student, Makasini’s physical presence, football intelligence, and skill suggest a promising future in the NRL. He notably represented the Under-16s City team last year, scoring a quick double within two minutes.
Reports suggest that Makasini has already participated in several NRL training sessions with the Wests Tigers, with the club hopeful that he will make his first-grade debut within the next 18 months.
