The New York Jets could tap into a rich NFL legacy to make a significant move this offseason.
Daniel Jeremiah, a former NFL scout turned media personality, has predicted a major trade in his recent mock draft.
According to Jeremiah’s projection:
New York Jets receive: a 2024 first-round pick (No. 5 overall)
Los Angeles Chargers receive: a 2024 first-rounder (No. 10 overall) and a 2025 second-round draft pick
In this scenario, Jeremiah envisions the Jets selecting Marvin Harrison Jr., former Ohio State wide receiver and son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Sr. Jeremiah highlighted the Jets’ need for another playmaker in the passing game to complement Garrett Wilson and sees Harrison Jr. as an ideal fit.
Marvin Harrison Sr., known as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, achieved remarkable success alongside Peyton Manning with the Indianapolis Colts. His son, Marvin Harrison Jr., has followed in his footsteps, excelling in football specifically at the wide receiver position.
While Harrison Sr. stood at 6 feet tall and weighed 185 pounds, his son measures 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 209 pounds, showcasing his physical evolution over the years.
NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein emphasized Harrison Jr.’s impressive traits and tools, projecting him as a Day 1 starter with high-end production potential.
Harrison Jr.’s college stats at Ohio State are impressive, with 144 catches, 2,474 receiving yards, and 28 touchdowns over his final two seasons.
Some may argue that with the signing of Williams, such a significant move might be unnecessary. However, Williams, at 29 years old, is only signed to a one-year deal, leaving uncertainty beyond this season and potentially putting the Jets back in the market for wide receiver help.
Given the Jets’ recent efforts to address roster needs, there’s speculation that they could afford to make a bold move like this to bolster their chances ahead of the 2024 season.
There are connections between the Jets and Chargers, as the new LA general manager, Joe Hortiz, previously worked alongside Jets GM Joe Douglas with the Baltimore Ravens. Additionally, the Chargers recently hired Douglas’ right-hand man, Chad Alexander, as their assistant GM, highlighting the interconnectedness within the NFL.
Jeremiah openly discussed the potential bold move on “The Move The Sticks Podcast,” suggesting that with veteran offensive linemen in their 40s, the Jets might be all-in to win a Super Bowl in the next two years.
